We brought our sick BR girl home. She isn't improving but she isn't getting worse. We are syringe feeding her. Somedays she is more pert than others. She gets a multivitamin liquid, Baytril, and wet mash twice a day. Along with a electrolyte mix which I will start adding honey to. Her neck is twisted so when we feed her we are careful. Am starting to think she may have wry neck. If she is the same Monday I'm taking her to the vet.
I don't really understand the mechanism but I believe wry neck in chickens can be helped by supplementing vitamin E. Worth a try even ahead of the vet? Or is that covered by your multivitamin liquid?

Vitamin E is in the multivitamin and I forgot to mention we are cutting open Vitamin E gel caps and adding to her mix.

I am not sure the Princesses are good for my blood pressure.

There was a fox around this morning (saw on camera) and I came to sit in my chair in the Chicken yard and was confronted with this.
Noooooo!!!! Not Piglet.

Of course as I rushed towards her lifeless body I spotted that she was sound asleep.

She was quite good natured about being woken up so abruptly and quickly settled back down.

And comforted herself with a snack.

Am I the only gullible chicken tender that keeps falling for this?
I need a drink to steady my nerves.
:gig

Nope - Tuff was snoozing in the Summer House last night and I thought for sure she had passed. As I went to pick up her wee body she sat up and looked at me. Of course I jumped back startled which set everyone off cackling because they didn't know why I had jumped...

Of course I did this to one of my old horses once also - ran out in the paddock as the horse wasn't getting up when I called her! I ran over and I guess my running set the others off running and the poor horse on the ground bolted upright and staggered to her feet wondering what was happening.

Yep nerves of steel.... that's what you need.

@BY Bob
Has managed to train his chickens to march in single file. What next Bob? https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27048183

Transcribed an answer from Aurora who deigned to respond to a mere servant. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27054056

Fortunately Aurora now has some more questions from actual chickens including this one from Twilight (transcribed by @LhickenChicken). https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27056564

@ChicoryBlue
Is going through some difficult decision-making about adding more chickens to her flock. Naturally many of us enablers weighed in with helpful suggestions. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27053897
The reason for this debate is that Butters is not doing so well. She is enjoying the days she has, but Chicory is concerned that there will not be too many more of them which would leave her with only two in her lovely flock. I am sure we all hope for the very best for both Butters and Chicory as they go through this together.

@featherhead007
Has been dealing with a heat wave - several of his chooks got cooling baths and a chance to play at the water park

@Lexicon
Has an accidental cockerel and is figuring out what to do. Hopefully this interesting lesson from @bgmathteach on how to manage a young hormonal cockerel will help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27059269

@lightm
Is back from her visit with family in China. If you missed her thread on this fascinating journey it is here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/follow-me-to-a-trip-to-china.1583560/
Her chickens were I am sure happy to see her return, but poor Light has an impacted crop: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27047007
The vet found her crop was full of sand. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27051524
And now she is doing very well. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27059739

@Ponypoor
Posted the most extraordinary photo of Mr. P - he is not exactly taking flight: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27043398

Has had a close encounter with a fox and is now going to prioritize her electric fencing: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27045295

And has been secretly breeding swamp chickens who are ridiculously photogenic and Pony now has a lot of wonderful tax payments saved up to treat us all: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27048691

@RebeccaBoyd
Lost her very beautiful lead hen Butter and posted a lovely tribute to her. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27050644
With such a sudden and unexpected loss there will be some drama as the flock decides on the new queen. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27053689

@rural mouse
Storm hatched her chicks (go Storm!) https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27049813
And there has been much entertainment for us (and maybe also Storm) and stress for @rural mouse trying to get her in and then her babies in and out of the coop. Storm is not overly cooperative with anyone meddling with her babies. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27051860
Storm of course managed everything just fine. https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27053946

@RoyalChick
The Pentagonists are not paying attention to the electric fence: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27042852
Thank you RC, good job! ❤️

No sooner did I get outside and start the lawnmower, the flying insects were swarming everywhere around me.
I had to say (damn the mosquitoes, full speed ahead!)
The chooks were following closely behind.
Good one :)

I lock my kiddos away when I mow, they just get in the way and don't move.
