Need pics of Dusty, Twinkled, Ruby and Sapphire. Without those pics, you're correct: 30. With them, you can't count.

Silly Butt Saturday

I missed Friday, so why not post a photo of these silly chicken's butt?
Their molt seems to be closer to completion as well.

Why would Tassels suddenly be so mean to her? I think Tassels chased her away from the food.
This is common behaviour. As @Ponypoor mentioned, broody hens are acting weird, so fights happen.

If I ever have to remove a broody hen from the nest, I try to do it when the others are busy foraging elsewhere, so she can have some peace. As soon as someone hassles her, she runs straight back to her nest bokking loudly and I like her to spend as much time off the nest as possible since I haven't had fertilized eggs previously.

Luckily, we are now in moulting season, so no more broodies until next year.

FBA chicken Synopsis: 10/7 - 10/14

(This is my first try at the synopsis. Please forgive me if I missed something which is almost inevitable.)

First off we have a new visitor @thecatumbrella

It is also very exciting that @RebeccaBoyd got a new silkie hen. She is 5-month old. Her name is Poppet. She is beyond adorable: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27235416

Great job, Light! Thank you.

:confused:Well. I don’t think there is any doubt that Sylvie is broody.
She hadn’t left the nest in 24 hours so I hauled her off and put her in the run where she was immediately attacked by Tassels which feels a bit unfair.
The mystery is the eggs. I need to look back at my records but I am puzzled.
Sylvie had accumulated 5 eggs (all real).
The small brown one is her own. The little blue ones are likely Piglet. But if they are all Piglet’s then one is from today. So maybe one is from a new blue layer (Pooh or Calypso). Hmmm.
The mystery is the big blue long one. Maybe it is a strange shaped Babs egg. Or someone new laying.
These chickens confuse me.

In the second picture the brown one on top of the egg box is Sylvie’s from a couple of days ago, and the blue one on the far right is Babs from today. Next to Babs’ egg is the big long blue egg.

I'm guessing the big blue ones are Babs', because the little blue ones are so consistently like each other. This theory is that the big blue layer would be more likely to lay a long egg of roughly the same volume as the more round one.

Not sure where the Azurs are roosting - I see my niece’s chooks

and the chicks. But were are those Azurs?

Well seems that the hen in the bottom pic is actually One of the Azurs not Sharpie - a second Azur and Sharpie where there hidden behind her. And the third Azur was on the roosting ledge 😊 all accounted for.

Well I would think that if Tassels was laying. But the only folk laying (to my knowledge) are Babs - who is not being mean to anyone, and Piglet who while I was in the run was waaay more interested in the little shrimp I was distributing than attacking anyone.
Hmmm.
Maybe Tassels is about to start laying. Or maybe that long blue egg is her first egg (though she is supposed to lay olive colored eggs).
Just so strange.
Tassels doesn't know what to think and sees this new "abnormal" behavior from Sylvie? Who is dominant? What does Sylvie do, stare her down & flare her hackles, or take the pecks?
