Mine don't sound exactly like that when broody.
Esme sounds like she is muttering to herself.
"This nest is a disgrace. I am going to have to spend all day putting each piece of straw back where it belongs. I really wish other people/hens wouldn't mess with my space. They always leave a mess. Do they think I have all day to do nest tidying chores? Maybe I will just have a bit of a sit down before I start. Gotta look after the eggs as well as arranging everything. There just aren't enough hours in the day...... etc. etc."
:love

Misty has turned into a tyrant! She is generally a quiet hen that doesn't bother anyone. But since she went broody this time around she has turned into a lunatic! She is picking fights with everyone.

I am thinking of putting her in Whiskers pen I made for her, and locking her in there when I am not home (at work etc). This way she can't just get off the nest at random and go on a rampage.

Raven's eye is still not right, more Maxitrol Ointment and 1/4 of an aspirin this morning. She is too old for that crap, but she is her own worse enemy not backing down. Twits!

I have printed 3 sizes of chicken sandal. I will see which fits NiNi best tomorrow and vetwrap them on. I figure if I can get her wearing them, then once a day remove, clean, and check the reflexes, she will hopefully improve enough to return to the flock soon. Otherwise I will need to figure out something with Delft and her brood...so she can use their coop.

Have you tried the sandals yet? I am interested to see if they help.

Took Coco back to the coop, she didn’t mind at all, but then I saw poor Nacho trying to babysit her one and only chick. Her eye has been pecked out in a fight.😔 I decided to bring them both inside. Mama and baby are now resting comfortably on my bed with me. I can’t believe chickens can be so cruel as to peck an opponents eye out. This little one is just way cute!
On the other hand; I can’t find the other two missing chicks anywhere on my side of the fence.
I hope Nacho and her un-named baby enjoy John Denver music, because that’s what I prefer today.

Thought you named baby Tax?

Do you have any polysporin eye ointment? you can put some of that in her eye.

Just put a small "pea" size amount on your finger and dab it into her eye as best you can. You may have to help by pulling the eyelid down. That is what I am doing with Raven the dingaling.

I swear these broodies are driving me bonkers! Just waiting for those Orpingtons to go broody.... At least Polish are not known to be overly broody!

I am trying to do all I can for poor Nacho and her chick. It breaks my heart to see any of my chooks suffer. I have a heart too! I think I might have misplaced it in divorce court years ago!😔

Oh dear.
I think Pooh is teaching Mr. Chips to crow.
He is still only at the peeping stage. None of the Littles are even honking.
I love the honking stage, it's so funny!
It's one if my favorite chicken sounds 🥰
My absolute favourite has to be the single-syllable peep small chicks do when they're grazing or foraging in a group but not very close together. I always think of it as "pinging" off each other to get location updates. It's such a content sound.

And Then There Are 3

Having relearned my lesson by only having 2 Polish I decided that only getting one more polish to try and pair with Niamh may not have been wise. Therefore, we now have another polish.

Everyone meet Tilly.

She is a gold laced Polish who came to us from Texas. There were no polish anywhere near us so I had to have her shipped here overnight.

She arrived mid-morning safe and sound. She is just over 4.5 months old. Tilly is in the rabbit hutch under quarantine.

It took quite a bit of enhancement but it should work as a suitable place for her to serve her time.

I now have 2 different quarantines going on opposite sides of my yard.

Hopefully, by having seperate quarantines no one will bond before they are all put together in the Cluckle Hut and start learning from Niamh. I surely hope this works. If not, this is the last time I'm going to try something like this.
Hi all, I've been lurking on this thread for a while - mostly far back. I just wanted to comment on how gorgeous Tilly is, because I have 2 beautiful Polish myself. I originally got them because I thought my grandchildren would love them but I fell in love with their quirky, spunky little personalities. I will include pictures of them now and the big 8 girls as appropriate.
