My vet Gloria uses a local aneastheitc on fowl. I don't know what type it is.
When I get time I am going to do more research. I have learned that there is a lot of false information related as gospel when it comes to chickens.

Yes, @BY Bob suggested that and I have set up a camera. I think it very unlikely there are cats, and they aren't 'marking' they just have relocated their toilet, but it is definitely worth checking so I have deployed a camera.
And yes! I am a Jackson Galaxy fan. It was watching him that made me think maybe there is something about the other litter boxes that caused them to be less attractive. Something scary? Not clean enough? They are pretty clean but I will do a complete deep clean once the storm passes.
Very annoying!
I feel your pain.

Chicken tax. Out yesterday before the snow started. They were very interested in the wood ashes DH scattered on the driveway. Hazel did not come out, she wanted to eat and drink regular things, but she was watching. You can see her under the old sawhorse in the upper left of the picture.

Yes, it is annoying, I sympathize! Not fun at all. Kind of a problem when people come to your door, but maybe because of the pandemic that's not an issue at present! A possibility is that the dynamics between your cats itself is at play. Maybe the territory of all the litter boxes is claimed by the one cat that actually does their business there! :idunno

I am thinking that indeed might be the cause. If I could tidy up the garage I could let them in there and that would be a good place for litter trays and would help with the mouse problem too. Hmmm, need to think about that idea.
