It appears that it is not uncommon, especially when they have young, for skunks to be out an about foraging in the daytime. I would assume that the Humane Society would be reasonably reputable regarding their habits and habitat.

I suspect they are a bit more likely to - babies need to eat frequently - and eat lots - so more forage time needed. This is not an 'I know the answer' statement, just a general supposition given the increased activity I see with foxes when they have kits - seem to be much more active in the middle of the day versus mainly dusk and dawn-ish times when they have kits. That said, I think I will now go see if I can find anything on the web...you have my curiosity piqued now!

I was curious too - there are a lot of videos of skunks moving their young to new dens so I wonder if that is what was happening - though as the baby was walking on its own you might expect its siblings to be with it.
My other theory is that the peaches that fall to the ground are a big attractant and if they wait until it is dark the deer have eaten them all so they were rushing to make the early bird special. It was not long before dusk so that seems a reasonable theory.

Interesting. And no unusual behavior. To me it seemed like she was on a mission - get to the peaches before the deer do!
