The world is full of enablers, some where you least expect it.

I have 3 broody hens plus a incubator. I have been good this year, no chicks. I finally got the chance to meet one of my newest neighbors. They have lived in the subdivision 2 months now, but they both work during the day. All I knew from a distance was it is a older man and woman with what I thought to be a Goldendoodle. Yes I noticed right away they had a big dog and was worried about it at first. Good people, dog is contained and only barks when someone is outside and it is out. I was out with mom loading up the truck to take off some stuff to the dump that was too big for the garbage people to take when I spot him pull in and start unloading some landscaping timbers. I sent Rosie in for a dozen eggs. If you live near me, while the girls are laying good you get all the eggs you want no charge. There are 12 houses in our subdivision, 9 of them take eggs, 10 now. Walked up and introduced myself and offered him the eggs which he was happy to accept. We did have a little argument over him wanting to pay for them but I won. I comment that the flower beds looked great and he starts talking about how his wife was in heaven having a place to be able to landscape and plant flowers and garden. Side note, veggies are being planted soon, they also are going to take a bucket or two of manure to fertilize. Then he drops the bombshell I was not expecting. He starts out with my chickens are beautiful. Thank you. Do I ever let them have bitties as he called them. He has a 4 year old grandson who loves to look at them when he visits and is all the time hollering at my chickens from the porch. He was hoping I would have chicks at some point so his grandson could see and possibly hold a baby chicken. I laughed and told him no chicks yet this year, I am holding off until my silkie lays. I did tell him when his grandson visits to bring him down. If he wants to see and hold a chicken I have plenty he can hold or feed out of his hand.

Enablers I tell you, they sneak up on you when you least expect it.
Look, we know you're going to hatch chicks.

Hey, maybe you could hatch them for your neighbor if they want chooks. You get your chick fix and they get theirs. And we can all help enable you as well.

Stormfeather seems like he is no longer a juvenile delinquent. I guess he has earned the title of "Hen Escort". I only hate when he "suggests" to the hens to lay behind the feeder, not the nest boxes. Some of them take the advice, and some don't...:barnie
My rooster sits in the open air nest box. He's trying to coax more of them into laying there.

The "open air nest box" was a spot where one of those Wyandottes laid her eggs in a corner, not in a nest box. We put a wood cover over it, but left the front wide open. It's big enough for Cockerel. She loves that box. And Cockerel will go sit in it. I sometimes joke he's going to lay an egg.

Morinth has been shouting and tuk tukking from jail all morning. I dropped off some blueberries and she complained about the conditions "there is nowhere to nest!"

Meanwhile the rest have been busy!

If Poppet would get with the program chicks would already be on the way. Yup I plan on hatching. Silkies, one way or another there will be silkies hatched this year.

Hillbilly Days Festival is going on in town. Started Thursday and ends Today after the parade. I have not gone in 5 or 6 years. I used to take Rosie to the carnival but then she got old enough and wanted to go with her horseshow buddy Mallory and not her mommy. I did not complain, here is your money, you are with someone I trust and when you are broke there is no begging and bleeding me for more, bye girl. Bonus, I am not going to turn green with your tilt-a-whirl obsession. I can handle that ride, just not 5 to 6 times in a row and it is her favorite. Yesterday I needed out of the house and well, I have not really left the house for 2 years for myself. Me and Rosie went together. Rosie decided she did not want to go to the carnival, bonus, instead we walked all over town looking at the vendors and food. She spent all her money and then Mommy please and I caved on some things. I did get 2 things just for me. I did not need anything but I never ever really buy myself anything. First is a ring.
DSCN3012.JPG

Nothing much but I spotted it while she was trying on rings trying to decide what she wanted. She ended up with a ring and 2 bracelets from this vendor. I liked it, silver and blue, perfect combo.
Then later on I spotted these and I had to have them. Rosie was like there is no way you can wear them out in public. Oh girl, you did it. You have a few dr appointments coming up, I WILL wear them now. You all will appreciate them and understand why they HAD to come home with me.

I mean, what crazy chicken lady does not need rooster earrings?

All those on FBA who had been satisfied with the brooders they used gave recommendations ; some had no issue with the same model. It's possible that the auto-switch off was the problem or a defective unit.
He came up with a temporary solution that seems satisfying.

“Don’t go getting any ideas”
:gig :gig:gig

On Mr.P would you consider rehoming the ladies that are attacking him? Would make way for you to have some more babies and spare him some pain. I hate to see him being confined because of them!
I second that. Or segregating the culprits away from him. They think they have this right to be nasty to him because they are getting away with it. Just saying.

Its really awful him continuously being hurt. He's such a good boy that has already suffered so much.
