Finally got a pic to upload! This is Larry, the strangely colored EE. Some people say porcelain, some people say splash. His saddle and hackles are creamy yellow.
Oh cool! Then our chicks may turn out to be similar to one another. Larry is a strange color. Some say splash, some say porcelain. He is a creamy grey-white color with creamy yellow hackles and saddle feathers and his tailfeathers are light grey with dark gray splashes. Last time I tried to...
I finally hatched my first eggs from my flock! The eggs came from Welsummer, Cinnamon Queen, and EE and all were covered by my EE rooster Larry. I'm so excited!
Looks like you've got yourself a little rooster there! And I bet he will be a looker! I had one just like him and he grew up to be the rooster in my profile.
I have 4 EE hens that started laying last October. They were doing an awesome job, laying 5-6 times a week until a cold snap came through. Once it got below freezing they really slowed down. I don't think that's normal though. Most people say their EEs lay right through the winter, especially if...
I have always found EEs to be extremely hardy. I have many different breeds and have lost at least one of each to a sickness over the years I've had them, but never an EE.
Got my first blue egg today!!! I was beginning to think it would never happen. The hen is 34 weeks old! I have 5; 3 laying the exact same shade of pastel green, one laying sky blue, and one not laying yet at 34 weeks! An olive or another blue would be amazing! Lovin' the pics of everyone's birds.
I think it's really just the luck of the draw with roosters. Especially EEs since we so often are unsure of their parentage. I have had 3 EE roos, one is still pretty young so I can't say for sure with him yet but none of them have ever shown signs of aggression. I have had 4 other roosters of...
Sounds like I could have quite the breeding project on my hands! I don't know the original breeder of Larry, I just know she is a private breeder in Morrilton AR. I doubt she's on here, my friend bought a bunch of pullets from her and then traded Larry with me when he found our Larry was a boy...
I'm not sure what color Larry is but splash is the best guess I can make. Got him in a trade a month ago, and the person I traded with was not the original breeder so Larry has come a long way and his 'pedigree' is lost to the ages lol. Thanks for the info. I guess what I'm trying to ask is...
So, how does this work? I want to make my own EEs in the Spring too! Last night I traded a RIR for a Barred Rock pullet. I have 2 EE roosters:
Mallard
And Larry:
What characteristics of the chicks would make them sex linked if I put her with either of these boys?
Salmon Faverolles have muffs and a beard but lay creamy whitish eggs. They also have 5 toes so if your neighbor's girls have 5 toes that would be a big hint. It's also possible for some EEs to lay non-colored eggs. If their lineage gets too far away from the Ameraucana they can lay white...
None of my remaining 5 are squatting or doing 'hen-like' behaviors. The 2 Wellies' combs are still just about halfway to the size of the laying Wellies so I don't expect new speckled egg layers til probably next spring . I have 2 others that do lay. As far as the 3 EE girls, one looks like she...
