If you can get it apart again, after you clean it take a little mineral oil or coconut oil and smear both the channel and the nubbin just where they fit together. Put them together slightly, and move then together back and forth to distribute the oil. It should work better.

By stuck do you mean it is hard to rotate the bell top off the tray bottom? I have had that issue with waterers and I found that a touch of lubrication helps. Even just some olive oil rubbed onto the edge helps. Eventually with use they get easier to undo.
Exactly that! But I avoid coconut oil because it solidifies in the cold and I was worried that would make it harder to undo. Mineral oil, vegetable oil, olive oil should all work doing exactly what you describe. Hopefully @Marie2020 can make that work so she doesn't have a useless waterer.

You're right, and I don't use it there, it would be too stiff. Was trying to think of something natural and not petroleum based as an alternative for her. I'd go with olive oil!
