My property and buildings, have seen a couple of scrapes and scratches. Like an old man who has been living a long time. Bumps and bruises are certainly present.
I just can’t do everything that I used to be able to do, and it’s getting harder every year

Good morning everyone! It’s still mild here, the rain has stopped, but it’s foggy. Hoping to 1) get the electrical corrected now that I know where to look, 2) see if the chooks want outside at all, 3) give Mr P his new punkrock look.

Covid, flooding, and a busted pump in my main septic tank. Not how I wanted my last 2 weeks to go but all were blessings in disguise. Covid has seemingly reduced my appetite so I am dropping some weight, hope this stays true for another 50 pounds or so. We got over a foot of rain this week so our pond is completely full again. The sun is peaking out so I may let the chooks out a while this afternoon. During the testing of the new pump they discovered a big leak in the line between the pump and the field. Fixing this means our front yard won't get as mucked up as has been. Taking this coming week off for my birthday and to visit my buddy Mike before he begins chemo treatments.

Now that the pullets are laying, their butts, while fluffy, are no longer clean. Has anyone else noticed this?

Would a different feed help? I feed Kalmbach Flock Maker with 20% protein and oyster shell/egg shell on the side for calcium.

I have noticed this! I am glad it is not just my chickens.

What's weird is that this only happened to our 2nd generation chickens: Foxy and Meimei. Foxy got poopy butt when she started laying (5 month old). She improved as she kept laying. She stopped laying when she was molting this winter and hence nice clean butt. But now her butt is a little poopy again since she came back online
Meimei has this condition MUCH WORSE :-( to the extend that she lost a patch of feathers below vent where poop likes to accumulate.

Edited to add: I doubt changing feed will help but I have no evidence.
