I am sitting here fixing to do something that I never thought I would. That is to cook a beef brisket in the oven. It is pouring down rain here and I don't have a shelter to cook under. Found a good basic recipe to set my time and temperature for but I spice to my own taste. Anna will get her brisket tomorrow. I just hope a baked brisket meets her high standards.
Backed with love - she will love it :)

Can anyone give me a guess as to when the littles might be able to eat pellets rather than crumble?
I will run out of chick crumble before the end of the week and trying to decide how big a bag to get. I generally prefer pellets because of waste but I assume they are too big for the babies to eat.
Worst case I can make mash of course but at the rate these gals are eating I would be making new bowls of mash every few hours!

Raven you evil conniving wretch. I have already broken her up once this year, and it took some doing. Grandma has declared that any hen who wants to go broody in her porch nest boxes gets to hatch. I swear she heard this. Guess who is broody AGAIN, and guess where she is at. One of grandma's 2 porch nest boxes. Grandma knows, declared this morning if she was still sitting tomorrow evening she was giving her eggs. I am going to try but there is no way I can break that hen up in 2 days.

Backed with love - she will love it :)
She'll appreciate it but she will be honest. She's too much like her Aunt Kathy. When Kathy was young I would try to find restaurants that I thought had good biscuits and gravy because she loved her papaw's biscuits and gravy so much. I was living in Plano and took her to my favorite breakfast spot. When Kathy finished her plate the waitress asked if she liked it. Kathy looked her in the and said "the food was ok but not near as good as papaw's! " 😆

Zeus cocorico. The tween rooster is cocoricoing back from inside the coop. He is actually loud now and has a good cocorico going on.

There has been a discussion surrounding a plant that RoyalChicks hen Babs has been munching on, it was decided that it is Mugwort (Artimesia Vulgaris). Information on the protective properties for the liver was posted:

RoyalChick

Her new chicks were placed out in the brooder in the Chicken Palace, and survived the night :) They are not quite 3 weeks old but are thriving.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26812872

They are also learning the ropes on flying and landing (maybe Eli can give some pointers there).

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26815635

RC then put in the 'fire escape' ramp so that the chicks can come and go - they have a taste of freedom now and wont be contained!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26819087

... and Pigletine is a flying maniac :)

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26822973

Eli seems to be on the mend from whatever aliment she had; now it seems she has gone broody, and has started to steal eggs from other nestboxes into hers!

Had 6 beautiful Jubilees hatch with her lovely hen Brownie; they have graduated from their nesting bowl out into the wide world of the brooder tent :) soooo cute!

Disaster has struck the with the beautiful chicks, one was found to have some tissue trailing from it. avggrl was amazing treating it.

Hope was out there for the wee little one...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26817127

Unfortunately the wee one didn't make it - chicks are so small and fragile, it is amazing to me that any of them make it.

Had some excitement with two of her Roos fighting, they are headed to 'freezer camp' apparently.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26816657

And they really looked ready to rumble in this one photo.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26822153

She made the decision to put them into freezer camp before one of the hens was injured by their antics.

Another Monday is upon us, and Bob posted more lovely photos of his beavy of beauties.

And lets not forget about Sydney - wattles and a Barred Rock - lovely.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26819605

Mr Bob informed us that his Gleaming Glynda has been laying white eggs (rather then lovely blue ones) for a while; he confirmed this by cracking the egg open and sure enough through to the inside the egg is indeed white.

Imagine your favourite horse losing in the Kentucky Derby and a seemly tragic loss of some pullets - but all was ok with the pullets. Sorry about your favourite colt losing...

Her chicks are thriving and just adorable!

Meanwhile one of her pullets Ducky want broody, and made a nest under a building next door. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be, and rain flooded the nest.

Ponypoor
------------

The co-broody mamas were out and had a refreshing sand bath which the chicks didn't seem to appreciate. But the mamas were enjoying it!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26819751

There will be more chicks coming the way of Ponypoor. Seems the Enablers here did too good a job of talking into getting chicks.

These chicks are being hatched at a school were Ponypoor's niece teaches.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26818937

And a scary time with one that had some tissue trailing, seems it dried up and fell off the chick which is being left in the incubator to ensure it heals well.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-26822461

....and yes some youngsters are just overachievers - like little Pecker whom I have renamed Rico (because he cocorico at 3.5 weeks of age!).
