Remember when I got my first chicks? I got mystery chicks. It was very frustrating to wait to figure that out. I can sympathize 100%! I was able to figure it out at about the time they were fully feathered. It will become clear soon!

Oh it’s weird isn’t it? Believe it or not it has gotten better just very slowly. I have a bit of hope that it will right itself.

Time will tell, she is eating, drinking, and pooping. She is scratching around and doing all the normal chick stuff like the others so .

I may post over on the emergency thread just to see if anyone has seen it before and what they think about it.

I had a naked neck that had something like that as a chick. I rinsed and rinsed. I think she had something between her inner and outer eyelid because it eventually went away. She was fine as an adult. I'll look for a photo of her as a chick.

Sharp eyed Rural Mouse

I was at Peavey Mart getting some beet pulp and 36% poultry supplement for the big girls and popped over to see how many they had left from the arrivals on Tuesday - there was this crazy arse Americana chick eyeing the rim of the enclosure just looking at flying out - and then she did right into my shopping cart! Along the way she grabbed a BR by the head and dragged her into the cart also!

That chick is bonkers I tell you bonkers! She bit my hand and told me ‘March Hooman, or your eye is next!’.

Well now what’s a girl to do? So I marched !

This is probably the saddest post I have ever done here on BYC. I had to go to town this morning, and upon my return home I found Sir Jaffar lying in the run passed away. One of his spurs was hooked up to the chain link, as if fighting off a threat to his ladies. So, he’s gone and I am devastated.

So you don’t categorically deny or support the possibility of them being BO’s?

I'm saying so far buff orpington is a breed match for what they're looking like, but so are other breeds such as buff rock. Going off hoover's identify chick list, Amberlink, calico princess, California white, deleware, buff chantecler, golden comet, male ISA brown, prairie bluebell Eggers, even a light variety of new hampshire all can have fluffy yellow chicks. The list isn't exhaustive of chicken breeds and I left off all those with feathered feet. I don't know the differences between amberlinks and calico Princesses for example, and your little darlings haven't grown enough to show some of the characteristics that will make that clear....just as they haven't shown if any are male yet. Meanwhile, keep taking pics (you know we love those) and sharing sweet moments with us. Also share all the memories of Jaffar you care to as we all loved him too.

I promise I will examine every pic for chick breed identification and tell you what I can.

That definitely eliminates the rocks, leghorns, and any other yellow leg breed. Buff orp is very high on the list of possibles.

Knighted by Her Excellency Queen Aurora, Sir Jaffar fulfilled his command with Honor. He was Fearless, Brave, Kind, and always put the safety and welfare of others before himself.

Yes, I cannot resist, almost every baby pic is linked in this Synopsis. Another epic installment, with Chick Candy! Lots of name ideas for @featherhead’s new chicks from the pastor. Aeronautical, alcoholic (not a chance), religious / Latin liturgical, automotive names. Healthcare supply names after Featherhead sustained injuries from the chicks (they are aspiring barbers). Featherhead will take his time and is not setting any deadlines on naming. No one is absolutely sure what breeds other than the EE’s they are either - Wyandotte, maybe a Buff Rock?
