Missy was a very naughty girl this past week, my mum has been working on one of her quilts and Missy thought that hiding between the layers of the quilt on the quilting frame would be a great place to sleep.

Mum was NOT impressed!

It's the rotten owners most of the time

This dog has never hurt anything in his whole life. He's been bitten by dogs and two senior cat's and never so much as retaliated
Yes, I’m speaking generally. A lot of why a dog behaves as it does is due to the conditioning by humans. Some dogs have retained a greater prey drive than others, and most dogs have a strong pack mentality.

The dogs that have been trained to hunt, and those that have high prey drives, if they get loose, what they do is hunt. Any dog it is friends with, high prey drive or not, will come along if able because of the “run with the pack” drive. That’s what happens in my neck of the woods. When hunting dogs get loose, or are actually on a hunt, whatever they come across is fair game.

So, my cat example from long ago was two hunting dogs, looked like full beagles, and I don’t know if they were on a human-run hunt or not. Nowadays, the locals I know will not run their dogs hunting this way because we are too close to the interstate highway, about half a mile as the crow flies at the shortest point though it’s down in the valley. The wily coyotes leave the ridge and go down there. It’s safe there. They probably have their dens down there too. Hunting dogs get killed by cars and coyotes do not.

My neighbors dogs who came up here most recently were a Black Labrador along for the fun and anything it came across and a German Wirehaired Pointer who was on an AWOL hunting expedition. When they saw me they ran.

This must be terrifying 😳

We've had dogs that have been left in back yards or gardens that have escaped attack little dogs, that's bad enough. I'd be a nervous wreck living in your area. So I do sort of understand where you are coming from. Not fully of course because I have never been in such a position but I can well imagine the nightmare it's causing. :(

I love how her wing feathers had grown out but the rest of her is fuzz 💕

Dogs - one is usually not an issue but you get 2 and yep, that’s a pack. 0 tolerance here for loose dogs.

I have a gallows sort of chuckle when I see people posting big poster size ‘dog missing’ signs - the dog is likely shot by some farmer and thrown in the manure pile. City people haven’t the slightest clue on dogs and livestock.

Neat box frustration- Twister is bound an determined to lay her eggs in the hay, so this morning I picked her up to put her in the nestbox, nope she was not having any of that, she hopped out, ran off, I went to get her again but ‘plop, crack’ she plopped one on the floor. Darn her!

The egg has a small crack in the round end, I’ll have that for lunch - what a brat.

Ok so speaking eggs

I rechecked Henny’s eggs last night and I am almost 100% sure Penelope’s egg is infertile, one of Marty’s ‘might’ have something but the other also almost 100% empty.

Fluffy and Curly’s eggs are growing wonderfully.

Tomorrow night I will check again and deal with the eggs not growing 😟

Yesterday was funny. Late into the evening, I followed Dakota around. She seemed to be looking for a place to lay her egg. She’d stop in the tall grass, and I’d say “Nope, not there!” She’d hop into her box on the porch, I’d say “Nope, not here either!”
Then she headed towards the coop, and I said “Now you’re getting the right idea!”

@Marie2020
We all grieve Tina. She had been very unwell on Sunday, and passed Monday morning. Marie had just been wondering about her future with the girls, whether or not to take more chickens, or maybe let them at a wonderful place for rescues she has discovered.
So she was very worried about Princess and everyone on FBA tried to reassure her.

Some good news : Twirp has been found. After spending some time in the house with Whiskey as a companion , she chose to be with the chickens.

I love those pictures and you pegged us all. You are right, I love my fluffy bottomed feathered leg girls. That cochin pictured, I have her twins in Gryffyn and Flurry. I do not think I mentioned whatever was ailing Gryffyn she snapped out of and stopped penquin walking and is back to acting perfectly normal. You are right I can see Poppet in that silkie, but I can also see Marty as well. I can also see her Fluffy, Curly or Henny Penny. Part of what makes silkies so glamorous is their attitude. These silkie girls know they are special, and have the silkie tude to back it up.
