I don’t really like it either, but I have to say that in 50 years of living with cats I have yet to manage to control what they do in any way!
:lau
Mine are not allowed on the kitchen counter or tables. Otherwise they go where they wish, usually the foot of my bed!

Mugs Monday.
Cockerel was giving my new camera a look. I don't think he likes how much more bird-like this thing is (it has a gimbal, which has better stabilization than your average chicken head, which acts much like one in terms of staying level).

He's a cockerel, and he's already competing with Ijak in wattle size!!!

SHRA tax x 2 Chicory already answered RC! Oh well, I guess I have a reason to post some more chicken pics 😂

Double edged nestbox:
The good: the girls seem to absolutely love the nest box. They are laying more often (probably time of year) and all the eggs are now actually being laid in the box! Mission accomplished right?

The not so great: Well, now that Avalon has ample room for her ample fluffy bottom it seems she has decided to start thinking about going broody.

Now my one experience with broodiness was Brownie and she would make that warning growl sound when collecting eggs but she wouldn’t peck me.

Avalon however 🤦‍♀️ she is acting more like Rebeccas description of her crazy broody girl. I had to shoo her off of 12 eggs, that she Fully covered with room to spare, with the egg basket and the. She made a run at my arm that was taking the eggs!

This spring and summer should be fun guys!! 🤣

Last week’s Synopsis (Feb 3 - Feb 10 2023):
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27484204

This week’s news:

Congratulations to two thread participants
who won the “Poultry Paparazzi, a Cell Phone Photo Contest”!!! Beautiful pictures!
@Desertvalleychickens and @CCsGarden
https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ell-phone-photo-contest.1608015/post-27491427

Chick Fever is beginning to seriously take hold. Discussions of breeds, sources, weights of breeds. Big breeds too - Jersey Giants, Hamburg, Brahmas, even Marans. Cross-border exchanges planned for the middle of the night (must include catering). Also Eggs/ Roo / Pullet ratios and ways to influence that (besides asking the hens to choose one way or the other).
BABIES BABIES BABIES BABIES ARE ON THE WAY!!!!

Taxes gone wild! Comedy Corner more like it:
A SHRA tax due situation was immediately recognized and paid by the original SHRA poster. But another poster, without having read ahead (or perhaps so quick on the draw that the first poster barely had time to pay the SHRA tax?), demanded SHRA tax. (Everyone is deputized to collect as you know.) This prompted yet a third poster to demand SHRA tax from the second. Where will it end?
Witness the exchange, this post and the next.

@rural mouse
Update on the weather, Sherlock is coming along in training re the chickens, and a great picture of her multiple roosters’ sentinel strategies

Mugs Monday “Curious Mugs” because Sherlock changed it up and was totally ignoring them, playing with his ball, this confused the chickens https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27488429

Blanche ready to eat Castor’s food, but Castor had breakfast inside. Chicken on a dog/kitty house. Also! Truck Siting! Oh. Nothing new to report, it hasn’t moved in a while.

@Sally PB
Something about this picture is most unusual - the lighting, yes, but the bowling ball shape (tail is down) & glint of her back feathers over her very nice floofy floof! https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...es-stories-of-our-flock.1286630/post-27484061

Poor Pip is not well. Seems to have been soft shell eggs that Sally pulled out, and weird material with it (photos).

Seems to be improving. Keep her in isolation or move her out?

Apologies to anyone that I missed here!
AWESOME!

That was an amazing synopsis!

Thanks for doing such a wonderful job, and I loved the commentary!

SHRA tax x 2 Chicory already answered RC! Oh well, I guess I have a reason to post some more chicken pics 😂
Well, it is/was somewhat of an opinion - so having multiple people weigh in with the same opinion is good. No SHRA needed (in my opinion) in this case. Besides, you added extra info, as well!

That said, I'll take lovely pictures of your tribe any time you want to post a few extra! :love

Give your brooding hens to me, in two months, I'll bring them back with 24 pullets and cockerels!
I will let em sit this year on the jubilee's eggs if they decide to see it through. I just wanted to wait till late Spring or early summer because both Jubilees are new layers. The eggs those two are currently laying are quite small still and the shells aren’t consistently as thick/hard as they need to be quite yet.

I am hoping to sell at least some of the chicks locally once they settle into laying.
